A man of many hats!
I am Dr Nicholas Okumu, an orthopaedic surgeon in Nairobi, Kenya, with many years of experience in the health care industry. I am currently the Clinical Director at The Bone and Joint Clinic in Parklands, Nairobi and a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Kenyatta National Hospital. I am skilled in all aspects of orthopedic surgery including joint replacement surgery, arthroscopy, oncology, bone trauma, spine, hip, knee, foot and ankle surgery as well as paediatric orthopaedics. I manage patient conditions associated with arthritis, fractures and sports injuries, helping them return to an active lifestyle.
I am also a seasoned business manager. I am currently the Chief Executive Officer of Stratus Medical Centre, a medical imaging and healthcare services facility based in Parklands. In addition, I am also a co-founder of a modern dental practice based in Milimani, Nairobi. Separately, I run a series of apartments offering accommodation services, under the tag Westhood Homes. More recently, I have formed an NGO to deal with matters of Sarcoma in Kenya.
Beyond running my practice and business ventures, I have managed to find time to engage in writing articles on various platforms, such as being one of the columnists of The Star Newspaper in Kenya.
I am also an honorary lecturer at the University of Nairobi school of medicine, and a fellow of the Global Surgery Advocacy Fellowship.
After graduating from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2004 as a medical doctor, I obtained a Masters degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of Nairobi in 2012. I also hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of South Wales. I am a member of the Kenya Medical Association as well as the Kenya Orthopaedic Association.
I am a family man and married to my beautiful wife, Dr. Radhia Okumu, and together we have two children.
